Space
Soul
Soul Space is a block print collection that draws inspiration from the ancient art of batik. The theme of spirituality runs throughout the collection, reflecting my interest in exploring the connection between the physical and spiritual realms.
The intricate block prints are created using a special wax-resist dyeing technique, similar to traditional batik which was made in ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India The designs depict various symbols and motifs that are steeped in spiritual meaning, such as mandalas, forms and shapes connecting the body and soul.
The muted color palette, which ranges from soft earth tones to deep blues and purples, adds to the collection's contemplative mood. The fabrics used in the collection are carefully chosen which includes lyocell, denim, linen etc, to enhance the block prints and add texture

Batik is a traditional process of applying wax and dyes to fabric to achieve intricate and colourful patterns. The tradition of batik is particularly prevalent on the Indonesian island of Java and was handed down from generation to generation and was usually an occupation of village women
Over time the process has evolved from a hand-drawn technique known as batik tulis, where the designs were hand-drawn onto the fabric, to batik cap, where the designs are stamped onto machine-made fabric using specially crafted copper stamps.
The traditional process of batik tulis is still practiced in some communities but is far less common than it used to be. The long process of making a length of batik cloth begins with the cloth itself. The highest quality cloth producing the finest batik is known as primisima quality, followed by prima quality, biru (blue) quality, and merah (red) quality which is the coarsest.
Early evidence of batik dating back more than 2000 years has been found across Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, South East Asia, and the Far East. The theory that the art form of batik evolved independently in each of these regions is plausible. However, historians believe it is also likely that batik spread through caravan trade routes. By the 17th century there were established trade routes between China, the Indonesian islands Java and Sumatra, Persia, which is present-day Iran, and Hindustan, which includes the North Indian Gangetic Plain and the Indus River basin in Pakistan. Batik even travelled as far as the Netherlands, Germany and Switzerland in the 19th century during the Dutch East Indies colonization. Batik’s true origins are a mystery. Rice starch and wax were initially used for printing on fabrics. It is believed that after initial popularity of batik in the past, the tedious process of dyeing and waxing caused the decline of batik in India till recent times. Historically, the Khatri community of Gujarat were known to be the original artisans of batik printing. Over time, the technique of batik dispersed to other regions and cultures of India, possibly due to the tedious methods involved in the waxing and dyeing. It was revived less than a hundred years ago, when Rabindranath Tagore travelled to Java (Indonesia) in 1927 and was fascinated with this exquisite dyeing technique. He brought back several pieces of the fabric with the hope of reviving this traditional technique in India. The study of batik was thus introduced at the Vishwa Bharati University in Shanti Niketan. The technique evolved in the hands of the artists and craftsmen at the university, and from there it gradually spread across India. Thereon, the resurgence of Batik began. In the mid 1960s Tamil Nadu became another center for batik printing and its artisans, with the establishment of the Cholamandal Artists’ Village in Injambakkam.
The 90s was a golden age for video games, characterized by the rise of arcade games, the introduction of home consoles, and the growth of the personal computer as a gaming platform. Some of the most iconic games of the decade include Super Mario Bros. (1985), The Legend of Zelda (1986), Street Fighter II (1991), Doom (1993), and Sonic the Hedgehog (1991). These games set the standard for the genre and still have a large following today. The 90s also saw the beginning of 3D graphics in video games, leading to a new generation of games with more immersive environments and gameplay. Overall, the 90s was a time of innovation and growth for the video game industry, laying the foundation for the industry as it exists today.
